Special Opening Event | Act Natural 04
7 June | 17:00 - 00:00
Free Entrance
Exhibition | 7 - 23 June
On Friday 7 June, the multidisciplinary event Act Natural 04 curated by Jeisson Drenth will take place at Roodkapje.
Act Natural is the spur of the moment reaction during a serious or unexpected event. To be told to act natural is to be told to adapt to a changing environment. How does one go about repositioning, reconfiguring oneself to an unstable form, perhaps a (social) code, an idea, a new technology, a presumed understanding?
What’s natural anyways?
Act Natural is a space where research, personal expression and creative production come together in an effort to make sense of the identity of the self, the visible and the invisible world. The fourth iteration of Jeisson Drenth’s performance series Act Natural presents a full program with the presentation of a new work, a sound bath, lectures, lecture performances and live electronic music. These various forms are brought together to both celebrate and critically reflect on the politics of perception, the politics of image production techniques and the implications of using old and new technologies in personal expression and self exploration.
As a part of this evening Jeisson will present a new work that will be on show at Roodkapje for two weeks. This new work reflects on the process of learning about ancestry, health and personal traits through DNA testing.

• Jeisson Drenth •
Jeisson Drenth uses his practice to learn about technology, network culture and visual culture. In his efforts to make sense of his (digital) surroundings, he comes eye to eye with questions that address distinctive parts of his own identity. This interaction shapes a creative practice in which self exploration, studying communication and technology have become inseparable. Using a multidisciplinary approach, he translates his research questions and findings to different creative expressions and live experiences.
• Hamburger Community of Art •
The Hamburger Community of Art (HCA) is a yearlong development program for emerging artists based on the principles of experimentation, collaboration and developing new artistic practices. What can artists learn from each other? How can (young) artists stimulate their development collectively? What can society learn from artists and vice versa?
