In samenwerking met de Bijlmer Bookstore, het Amsterdam Black Women collectief en Lola Shoneyin (Aké Arts and Book Festival) ontvangen we Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ̀, de auteur van het boek Stay With Me. Zondag 16 juni gaat zij met moderator Tracian Meikle en een publiek van max. 40 personen in gesprek over het boek waarmee ze verschillende prijzen, waaronder The Future Awards Africa Prize for Arts and Culture, verdiend heeft.

Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ̀ schreef onder andere voor BBC, LitHub en The Guardian (UK). Ze behaalde haar bachelor en master in Literature in English aan de Obafemi Awolowo universiteit en voltooide haar master in Creative Writing aan de universiteit van East Anglia. Stay With Me is door de New York Times uitgeroepen tot Notable Book of the Year; The Guardian, The Economist, The Wall Street Journal en verscheidene andere publicaties benoemden Adébáyọ̀’s werk tot Boek van het Jaar.

In collaboration with Bijlmer Bookstore, the Amsterdam Black Women collective and Lola Shoneyin (Aké Arts and Book Festival) we’re welcoming Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ̀, the author of Stay With Me, to the Bijlmer. On Sunday June 16 she, moderator Tracian Meikle and an audience of max. 40 people will discuss her book that won prizes like The Future Awards Africa Prize for Arts and Culture and many, many others.

In 2017, Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ̀ won The Future Awards Africa Prize for Arts and Culture. She has worked as an editor for Saraba magazine since 2009. Her book Stay With Me was shortlisted for the Kwani Manuscript Project as a work in progress in 2013. After it was published in 2017, it was shortlisted for the Baileys Prize for Women’s Fiction, the Wellcome Book Prize and the 9mobile Prize for Literature. It was also longlisted for the International Dylan Thomas Prize. Stay With Me was named a Notable Book of the Year by The New York Times and a Best Book of the Year by The Guardian, The Economist, The Wall Street Journal and many other publications.
